Jump rope is an exhilarating sport providing many physical, social and psychological benefits including; increased cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, coordination, muscular endurance, communication, friendships, stress relief and perseverance.
Skipping Mania
Skipping Mania is a sport specific camp designed to improve jump roping ability. Whether you wish to develop a new skill, develop existing techniques or enhance your fitness, flexibility or agility for a sport you already play, we can guarantee both fun and progress.
Utilising a range of disciplines including; double dutch, individual jump rope and french skipping, skipping mania offers variety, with something for everyone. Furthermore, valuable life skills are enhanced and encouraged.
Disciplines
Individual jump rope – this discipline focuses on individual skill, learning skips such as single bounce, cross-overs, backwards single bounce, pretzel and toad!
Paired skipping – this discipline involves working with a partner involving timing and confidence as well as communication and cooperation when developing routines.
Group routines – this discipline involves three or more people working together, listening to others and practicing routines to music (and without), with the emphasis on timing.
Long rope – this is a fun discipline involving an extra long rope involving team work between rope turners and jumpers. Long rope is popular for involve rhymes such as teddy bear teddy bear, games such as shark attack and competitions including highest number of paired and individual skips.
Double Dutch – Double dutch looks cool and incorporates two long ropes working simultaneously! Although fairly challenging, it is very rewarding once mastered. This discipline focuses on perseverance, coordination and timing.
French skipping – French skipping involves the use of a long elastic rope held by the legs with jumpers being creative in making up some great routines. This can be done with a minimum of three people involving team work, encouragement in group and memory.
Games and Competitions
Games and competitions are both enjoyable and beneficial for development. During camp, your child will undertake games such as; last skipper standing, shark attack, and fisherman. Team relay races will also be incorporated where groups can work together to make up their own unique races using a range of equipment.
Competitions are encouraged against ones self and others in order to develop the ‘I will be the best I can be’ mind set, of which can be utilised in other areas of life.
