Multi Sports Madness

Sports

Sport is a great way to keep active and maintain health and well being. Our specialist sports camps enable children to engage with confidence, in the learning and enhancement of sports skills, in a variety of sporting activities through high quality sports coaching, in a fun and safe environment.

Each day at camp will consist of up to five different sports, as such, providing variety and broadening each child’s knowledge base and skill set. Activities include; ‘drills & skills’ sessions, fun games, competitions and matches. Sports include; football frenzy, basketball bedlam, skipping mania, quidditch, total tennis, indoor archery and many more.

Sessions & Groupings

All sessions comprise a warm-up (for physical and mental preparation), main component (with the focus on sport specific skills through fun drills, team races, and competitions), match time and cool down (for prevention of injury). Aspects of this will be child led thus developing leadership and confidence.

We understand that child development, be it physical or psychological, can occur at different rates, therefore although groupings for sessions will be based on actual age, children can be moved up or down (based on coaches judgement) if deemed to aid their enjoyment and development.

Sports Nutrition

Success in sport is not only about having the knowledge and ability to perform the skills during a match or practice but also involves fuelling the body in the correct way. Therefore, at Wacky Workouts we teach your child the benefits of nutrition for sporting performance and general healthy living. This is achieved through fun active quizzes, making snacks such as fantastic fruit smoothies and magnificent mock-tails, and discussions during lunch and snack time, with points offered for healthy and unique foods, adding to the anticipation, enjoyment and understanding. Coaches who lead the nutrition sessions will possess a Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate.

Performance Analysis

To improve in anything, sport included,  the ability to know your strengths and weakness, and ways of improving the latter are paramount. Therefore, children are provided with opportunities to practice their photography and videography skills as well as develop their analytical, observation, problem solving and team working skills, attempting to improve individual and team performance.

Statistical Analysis

If your child loves numbers and sport they will relish the chance to be a statistician, coming up with some key stats regarding sporting performance. Most steals during basketball, comparison of passing in defensive and attacking halves during football or number of attempted dribbles past an opponent with success rates as percentages during hockey. Who said maths was no fun!

Sports Reporting

For those who love sport, hearing about the latest news and events is a must. Therefore children are provided with the opportunity to report on events that occur at camp (super duper sports competition, an amazing achievement by a particular individual or a funny story of some kind). What ever is reported on, children will develop reading, writing presenting and interview skills. Some of the reporting may even be used on this very site! Keep a look out.

Life skills

Camp encourages the development of life skills. Children will have the opportunity to undertake roles that will not only provide them with individual and team points but also provide them with the confidence and ability to develop communication and leadership skills through leading small and larger groups of peers, with the role of team captain or enhance organisational skills through having the role of equipment monitor and activity organiser. All these skills are valuable for sport and can be transferred into education and beyond.

Rewards

We believe that rewards for sporting effort and performance should first and foremost be intrinsic. However we also know that it is wonderful to receive some sort of extrinsic reward for such efforts. that is why we offer the chance for teams to work together to achieve the multi-sports madness team shield and individuals to earn prizes such as jump ropes, footballs and basketballs that can further assist their sporting development. A few simple carb treats may also be on offer!! (Instant energy for their next sporting performance).

Fun and Friendships

Enjoyment has been identified as an imperative motive in sport participation and development alike amongst children and young people therefore, all sessions at camp are planned and delivered with fun as the core focus. This is often achieved through partaking in sport in a wacky kind of way whether it be the use of oversized balls or sticks for volleyball or hockey or the use of mini goals or balls for football. These all aid development, enable success and provide challenge whilst developing and maintaining lasting friendships through common interests.

Competition

wackyparties-imagesThroughout camp competition is promoted. We believe that through promoting the mindset of trying your best and accepting that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, your child is being provided with the tools to accept various triumphs and tribulations that may come their way, be it in sport or other area of life. As such, points are offered for various achievements including effort, winning, teamwork, leadership, helpfulness to peers and coaches and sportsmanship.

Our final day of camp is concluded with the ‘super-duper sports competition’ which encompasses the duration of the afternoon. Three and a half hours of fun-filled competitiveness between friends where all the skills and rules learnt throughout camp are put to the test, while cheering on their peers. Also, points are doubled! Who will be triumphant?

Class Ratios

All camps have a maximum coach to child ratio of 1:20 to ensure safety and effective learning.

*The above timetable is only an example and not all activities shown will happen every day. Although there are some creative activities each day, overall camp will be very active and sport orientated*
